Abstract
This thesis aims to make a comparative analysis of educational programs of two institutions — the Early Childhood Research Center (ECRC) at Buffalo and the Maci Foundation Preschool in Jászberény. The educational programs are analysed from the perspective of multicultural education in early childhood. The introduction of elements of multicultural education is recognised need in the USA. The experiences, American educators have already gained, could provide the basis on which Hungarian preschools could broaden Hungarian children's awareness of similarities and differences in culture. Children living in a more homogeneous society also need to acquire positive attitudes concerning diversity. This thesis assesses the ways these two preschools strive to develop children's tolerance towards different cultures and peoples.
