Abstract
In my thesis I concentrate on how important to teach the communicative competence to young learners at beginner level. I tried to summarize the practical aims of language learning when teaching young language learners. The dialogue is in the centre of my paper, so I demonstrate the importance of dialogues in the language teaching process. In the next two chapters of my thesis I present what makes a good dialogue, and I collect a wide range of ideas about how we can teach dialogues more effectively. In my investigation I introduce my coursebook entitled 'Apple Pie' by Heinemann first. Additonally, I compare my coursebook to two other coursebooks, considering the number of dialogues in these books. Furthermore, I examine whether these dialogues are competent and whether they have appropriate conversational rules and structure. Finally, I discuss the advantages and disadvantages of my coursebook with regard to my students' needs in developing oral skills. In conclusion, I state that well-built dialogues are excellent devices of teaching pragmatic awareness.
