Abstract
I' am going to prove that through his protagonist and his use of language Salinger's aim was to criticize the society of his age. We will see that Salinger could wholly understand the disillusionment of people at his time, as this is clearly shown in the novel by the treatment of his protagonist, Holden. We will understand at the end that he used him to tell his own opinion about the world. With using slang he has created an intimate tone throughout the novel, which has led to a very bright critique of society and he had a great inpact on his readers as he was talking to them in their own language.
