Abstract

This thesis presents and examines stylistical differences between two Hungarian translations of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. I am discussing the names, given by the two translators, László Szíjgyártó and Béla Nóvé. My aim is to prove that Szíjgyártó managed to transmit more of the characteristics of Orwell’s unpretentious and well-defined style therefore he created a more professional translation. However, I will shed light on Nóvé’s brilliant alterations and nuances he made, nevertheless still aiming to confirm that his choices are inadequate because they are overcomplicated and too sophisticated regarding their style, therefore inconsistent with the author’s outstandingly plain style.
