Abstract
Motion picture is part of modern language teaching. This thesis examines the role of video materials used in ELT. In Part I-IV of the thesis I will breafly explicate the theoretical background of teaching with video in terms of motivation, the video material itself, the techniques, and the guidelines of selection. I will prove that a well prepared lesson with a video may be as good as other lessons without video. In Part V a classroom research demonstrates the ways moving pictures affect language learners, and it proves the importance of visual experiences in ELT. At the end of the thesis I will draw the conclusion that video is a motivating tool in ELT, thus video may be as an effective and successful aid than course books.
