Abstract
This thesis aims to discuss the significance of games in English language teaching. It intends to show how to choose the suitable games and how to use them so that students get the most language practice from them. I examine the wide range of game types and study the situations where games should be used. I give a comparison of accuracy and fluency games in connection with the development of skills. Furthermore I point out how games can be used in different stages of the lesson. An analysis of a survey on language games will be provided. Most of the games in the chapters will be described in the appendixes.
