Abstract

This thesis examines the use of different stereotypes in teaching the target language culture. Stereotypical way of thinking is a common sociological phenomenon. Stereotypes are formed in connection with different age groups, social classes and cultures. I will prove that stereotypes of culture can form useful devices of teaching culture. Using methodological and sociological sources, I will demonstrate that stereotypes connected with the target language culture provide the possibility to examine different cultural issues and dealing with stereotypes widens the view and tolerance of the learners.
