Abstract

This thesis is about testing in English language teaching. Testing is very important because we have to measure our students' knowledge in order to promote them to become successful learners. In my thesis I will write about assessment and testing in details. I collected some of the ways of assessment. I will write about the reasons, the basic concepts of testing, and the test types. I will summarise the advantages and disadvantages of testing. Finally I carried out a research in order to demonstrate the problems of two standardised tests used at our primary school. I will prove that standardised tests are not always proper to measure our students' knowledge and skills. The aim of this research was to know some students' opinions about these tests as well. I found that at our school the children can not really express their opinion and they are very motivated at the beginning of the learning. Moreover their responses may help to make further decisions in connection with the tests.
