Abstract
This thesis examines the foreign affairs of the United States during Woodrow Wilson's presidency from 1913 to1921. The main part focuses on the fact that the United States refused to join the League of Nations, although it was initiated by President Wilson and he worked hard until the end of his life to make the American nation part of this international peace organization. I will explain: why most of the American people and the Congress rejected Wilson's ideas and foreign policy, and voted against the League of Nations. In my thesis I will demonstrate that the United States did not become a member of the League of Nations because the old tradition of political isolation from the Old World still lived strongly in the American public mind and they did not want to depart from this national tradition to the extent that Wilson's League would have required.
