Abstract
Popular Music is music that is enjoyed by the largest possible audience. It includes country music, musical comedy, rhythm and blues, ja7z, rock n' roll, ragtime, and marches etc. During hundreds of years European popular music has undergone many changes. Since the 1950s, British and mainly American popular music has been dominant on the Continent. The purpose of my thesis is to prove that the post-war period is the turning point in the development of European music and giving an outline of British and American popular music until 1960.
