Abstract
This thesis examines the historical and theoretical background of project work. The approach to project work, depicted in this paper uses the categories employed by the comparative foreign language pedagogy. The research conducted in this thesis will prove that the method is in use in Hungarian primary schools more or less regularly. I will attempt to prove that this alternative method deserves to be taken seriously by the language teachers.
