Abstract
In this thesis my main goal is to prove Marcus Brutus is the tragic hero in the play. I prove it by analyzing the play and find the most portrayed person and compare it with the common characteristics and traits of the classical Aristotelian tragic hero. I analyze his actions and these affect on the afterwards. I follow the events leads to his downfall and I draw the inference that his strict principles were the main cause of it. In the analysis of the major characters I put stress on their strengths and on their weaknesses. I explain what causes led to assassination by explore the play's historical background. I make a conclusion about this tragedy's historical necessity. In this thesis I also make clear why `The Tragedy of Julius Caesar' is not a historical play since there is close affinity between the play and the histories.
