Abstract

This thesis examines the causes of one of the most serious social problems in today's United States of America, which is racism and racial discrimination. I will concentrate on the situation of the largest minority group, the African Americans, and prove that the reason of the tension and hostility between black and white people are mainly white supremacists who have made blacks' life impossible throughout the centuries. Using several books that approach the topic from various aspects and, for rendering the thesis more colourful, a contemporary film, American History X, I will demonstrate that it is basically white people's hostility and hatred that has led to a firm and constant disdain of blacks.
