Abstract
This thesis examines the mass immigration from Mexico to Texas from the 1980 to 2000 with the causes of leaving the Mexican homeland and impacts that the immigration had in Texas' demography, households, welfare use, job opportunities, education and health system. I will prove that in this period the number of Mexican newcomers who crossed the border and settled in Texas was higher than in any other time. Using history books of Mexico and the United States, articles from the internet, essays of the Center of Immigration Studies, I will demonstrate that the flow of immigrants, both legal and illegal, was caused by the Mexican economic crises and the effects of Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
