Abstract
This thesis examines the question of the role of the language teacher in the contrast between theory and practise in language teaching. I will prove that pragmatic awareness is as important as the linguistic one for the foreign language learners. In order to use the language successfully, the teacher has to put emphasis on teaching communicative skills as well as language structure. After presenting the breaking points in the development of pragmatics I analyse some basic exercises I made with two groups of my students. Further on I provide my point of view on the relationship between translation and pragmatics.
