Abstract
This thesis examines the similarities and the differences between William Golding's novel Lord of the Flies and Nigel Williams' adaptation of the novel written for stage. In the thesis the focus will be mainly on character changes and the actions which affect the story itself. In the thesis I will also examine the major differences between a play and a novel. How could Nigel Williams succeed in adapting the story for the stage without loosing some of its importance? These are the main questions. The thesis statement is that although there are some notable differences in Williams' adaptation, it is mostly faithful to the original work, and some of the changes are necessary because of the theatre.
