Abstract
Since the importation of the first black slaves in the 1600s into the Jamestown colony, the question of black education has been a subject of controversy in the United States. This thesis introduces the struggle of blacks, throughout the various periods of history, to achieve equality with whites in the sphere of education. This struggle was long, harsh and progressing slowly, and a lot of difficulties emerged throughout the struggle. Fortunately, blacks were never alone. Many people believed that blacks were not at all inferior to white people, and they decided to support them. The obstacles were more or less defeated owing to humane and sympathetic people. The foundations of such people helped blacks a lot. The common aim was to turn segregation into desegregation at the schools. Starting from the Colonial times I would like to introduce how the goal of these people had been achieved step by step.
