Abstract
The main aims of this thesis are to draw attention to some of the learning difficulties including dysgraphy, dysorthography, dyscalculy and to focus on dyslexia, which is likely to be of continuing interest and importance in the future because according to the latest surveys three to seven per cent of the children in Hungary are dyslexic. At the same time, I hope to provide a useful resource for teachers, trainee teachers and students who would like to do further research for the topic. The thesis is divided into three parts: specific learning disorders, the background of dyslexia and the research carried out in schools. These are the themes which I felt were of particular importance. The main issues, which are discussed, involve causes, symptoms, methods and treatments, and the conclusion pulls together my experiences and further recommendations. In addition, I have included a list of books and articles, which I found useful. I hope that readers will find this a valuable guide that will encourage further discussion, debate and research in the profession.
