Abstract
Listening activities in language teaching are considered to be the most difficult ones of the four basic skills. In this thesis, I will examine the importance and the main features of listening activities, then I will demonstrate types of listening activities from different points ofview. Finally, I will focus on technical needs and the present situation of teaching listening in Hungarian schools. I will prove that although listening is a relatively neglected skill in the language teaching process, it has a very important role and I will show that it can easily be handled with careful preparation and attention.
