Abstract
Vilmos Zsigmond — a cinematographer with Hungarian origins — is the one who has become the most successful among his Hungarian colleagues in the movie world of the United States. Many well-known American directors choose him as the cameraman of their monumental motion pictures. He makes a good use of the theoretical knowledge that he acquired at the State University of Motion Picture and Theatre Arts in Budapest in the New World so he is much rather at home in the world of the American movies than in the world of the Hungarian movies. Zsigmond is participating in motion pictures with typical American features. That is why he can be rightly considered as an American expert, an American cinematographer. In this thesis I am going to investigate the factors on the basis of which iris Americanization as a cameraman can be proved. As a fan of movies I am greatly interested in the movie world of the United States and along with it I find it fascinating to do some research on the validity of my thesis statement that Vilmos Zsigmond, the Oscar winner cameraman from Szeged is rather an American than a Hungarian expert.
