Abstract

The Great Awakening was destroyed by some biblical mistakes in the practice of the preacher who only wanted to promote the work of the Holy Spirit. I followed a detailed analysis of Edwards' thoughts in the light of the Bible. 'I relied basically on sources such as all the letters written by and for Jonathan Edwards that survived, some of his works, his diary, the biography entitled Memoirs of Jonathan Edwards written by his own grandson (Dwight); and other critical works and writings of Protestant Christians, like Calvin, David Brainerd, D.M. Lloyd Jones and James I. Packer. I will demonstrate that on the one hand, Jonathan Edwards exercised a positive effect upon Christianity by his opposing the Arminian doctrines; on the other hand, it was the unbiblical ideas that he adhered to that led to the majority of his congregation's downfall.
