Abstract

In my thesis I will focus on accents of London which have and have hadan effect on Received Pronunciation. Not all the London accents will be dealt with, onlytwo of them, which I had found the most characteristic and interesting. The first, Cockney isa very old one, although still existing, while the other accent,EstuaryEnglish,is quitea new type. Both have distinguishable features, which have had, and, in fact, are having a very important effect onReceivedPronunciation. In my thesisIwill show these effects, andthe changes caused by them.
