Abstract

This thesis examines the role of cultural studies in English language education. I will prove that discovering the values of our own culture in the process of learning English language has an important place in foreign language education in primary schools. Analysing the literary background of teaching culture, the elements of basic documents of primary education concerning the teaching own culture, I give reasons for the importance of teaching about our homeland in foreign language classes. Using foreign language teachers', students' and parents' survey on teaching and learning knowledge of our homeland in English language classes I will demonstrate that English language teachers should start teaching about our own culture at primary schools.
