Abstract
This thesis examines the nowadays wildly popular Harry Potter series by British author J. K. Rowling, and their diverse influence on today's society, particularly on children. I will give a short look into the first - perhaps most known - book called "The Philosopher's Stone", examining the positive and negative elements present, including characterization, use of language, and background informations. I will introduce the mixture of opinions on J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter concerning religion, media and education, demonstrate the crusade risen between the Christians, how four small books have shaken up the world. I will prove that since Harry has become nearly unavoidable I think it's important to begin to learn critical thinking and address principles in relation to the series.
