Abstract
In my thesis my aim is to present a picture of vocabulary teaching - learning as one of the most important and for me the most interesting and useful area of language teaching. In the first part of my work I give a short account for the historical development of this area then I focus on the theoretical bases of teaching vocabulary. Moreover, I provide information about the work of memory. In the second half of my thesis I describe my own observation on vocabulary learning of my pupils. I present my techniques used for carrying out my research. I give an accountant for data collection and the results of testing. At the end I analyse my work with my pupils and its effects. Further I draw some useful conclusion for myself which will be beneficial if I keep them in sight in my future teaching practice.
