    Abstract

The thesis focuses on the similarities in the use of motifs and sonnet structure in the sonnets of Shakespeare and Lőrinc Szabó. First it gives biographical background of sonnets and reveals the relation between two poets. Then it identifies the sonnet form to the reader and guides him through such important motifs like the never-resting time, literary monuments as the preserver of love, the mirror, and the blind fortune, which occur in both authors' sets of poems. The thesis gives a view on what Iffect Shakespearean -Sonnets had on Lőrinc Szabó and how it influenced the sonnets of the Hungarian poet through his translation.
