Abstract

In my thesis I will explain the importance of culture teaching in any foreign language lesson. It will be in the centre of interest throughout the thesis, in which I would like to prove that integrating target language culture into the EFL (English as a foreign language) lesson is a key issue since it helps the learning process in a most effective way. First, I am going to introduce different definitions of culture, then discuss the advantages and disadvantages of cultural studies. The main part of the thesis focuses on the challenges of culture teaching and the problems that might emerge while teaching it. The final chapter introduces a survey, which evaluates the five levels of `Headway' course book series from a cultural viewpoint, and examines whether cultural elements can be detected and how they are utilized in language teaching.
