Abstract

In my thesis I would like to fmd the most important common features in two plays of the European absurd theatre. I want to examine the roots of the absurd, the forerunners of it in the literature and also the philosophy. I am also interested in the other tendencies of the contemporary drama. The plays Waiting for Godot by Beckett and The Bald Soprano by lonesco I find very suitable for serving as models of the absurd drama, so I tried to analyse them in order to fmd some characteristic features, similarities and differences too. I write about the Existentialism, about the philosophers, who influenced the Absurd Theatre. I would like to point out that the Absurd dramas have not only a lot of novelties but they also use the old rules.
