Abstract
In this thesis I will examine SMS poems. Such poems are composed on the keypad of a mobile phone and sent off to another mobile phone via the short message system (SMS). Based on the samples obtained from the Guardian's web sites, online poetry magazines, and a recently published collection of SMS poems, I will prove that SMS poems are pieces of literature. This statement will be justified by demonstrating that SMS poems meet the criteria of literary texts.
