Abstract

In this thesis I will examine a recent literary trend and approach, Postmodernism, and its reflection in two of David Lynch's films, Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive. I will show how this approach revolutionized our way of thinking by questioning the authenticity of language and communication, and also having a final interpretation of a work of art. I will prove that even if we are certain in one meaning of a work, we are under our delusions. First, I will discuss Postmodernism and its sources in order to shed light on the reinterpretations of Abstract linguistics and literary theory, and by examining them throughout the two films I will demonstrate that although there are different techniques and possible interpretations, there is no final one. Instead there is a plurality of interpretations, each one correct in its own way.
