Abstract
This thesis examines the differences between England and Scotland during the period of witch-hunts and James Vi’s reign. I will prove that he used witch-hunt to settle his position in Scotland and achieve the throne in England. Distinctions were revealed in witch trials as well. Although Scotland and England are neighboring countries, the procedure ofthe trials and the status ofthe victims in Scotland were rather similar to other European countries for example German than to England. Economic and positional problems led to witch-hunts in Scotland while in England the root ofthe hunts was mass hysteria.
