Abstract

This thesis examines the role of assessment and the importance of rewarding and punishment on the English lesson. I have chosen this topic because I think this is one of the most important topics for a teacher because he/she should know what can be an effective method to motivate students and what the limits of the rewarding and punishment are. I examine how teachers use rewards and punishment and whether there are any new types of them. Moreover, the most important is how corresponding the students' needs to the teachers' system. This thesis is divided into three parts which consist of further subdivisions. The first chapter includes the motivation of learning because in the education both the rewarding and the punishment are to motivate the students to work. The second chapter lays stress on the explanation of rewarding and punishment. The effect, role and the types of them can be found there in different subdivisions. In the last chapter the practice is in the centre. I examine the concrete appearance of them, how teachers use rewarding and punishment in the practice on the English lesson and what are the effects of them on the students. I used questionnaires for the examination.
