Abstract

This thesis examines how a colony could gain her independence from the oppression of the coloniser power, setting India, which was subordinate to the British Empire, as an example of the colonial status,. I will prove that the success of reaching the independence of India can partly be thanked to Gandhi, who found out the new form of resistance. I used specialised literature in connection with the problem of the colonisation and the Internet as a means of collecting materials for my thesis. I will demonstrate that the nation's formation played an important role in achieving the aim of the non-violence movement that contributed to form the new, independent India. I would like to prove how important the obtaining of the independence was in terms of the colony's political, economical and cultural life. In India Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi started the independence movement and played a significant role in gaining the autonomy of his country, even if there are many criticisms about his special personality, his great sense of responsibility towards his nation and the rationality of his ideas. I am sure that he kept the Indians' interest in view when he announced the necessity of resistance against the colonisers.
