Abstract

This thesis examines the effects of private life on politics in the Victorian era through Queen Victoria and three of her Prime Ministers, Sir Robert Peel, Benjamin Disraeli and William Gladstone. According to my hypothesis, Queen Victoria was directed by her personal feelings and other persons' judgments in politics. I will prove that there were Prime Ministers who managed to get closer to the queen. I am going to examine these Prime Ministers' relationships with each other and the eponym person of the era, Queen Victoria. Consequently, I will discuss the most important political acts of the era to prove my statement. Although many contacts in the era were conflicting and subtle, they succeeded in developing the British Empire and maintaining the unity of Great Britain during Victoria's reign.
