Abstract

In this thesis I try to draw attention to the importance of songs in the process of acquiring a second language. I examine the advantages and the drawbacks of such songs during the language-lessons in order to persuade all my colleagues to build songs into their syllabus. In the second half of this thesis I compare two age-groups, their characteristics, their attitude towards singing and music. I try to give some prospective exercises in connection with songs which can refresh our language lessons. I also analyse a dozen answer-sheets to that questionnaire, which can be found at the end of this thesis. (appendix 1) With this questioner my goal was to illustrate the current position of music and songs in the language teaching process, and I try to find solutions for an even more effective way of exploiting songs for the benefit of the children.
