Abstract

This thesis intends to prove the role of games and the importance of the lexical approach in vocabulary teaching. In the first section I will describe the theoretical background of how teaching vocabulary has changed during the last few years. In this section I will also write about the importance of the lexical approach. In the second section I will discuss what game is, its advantages, the types and effectiveness of language games. In the next part I will describe the importance of vocabulary, some vocabulary teaching techniques and when and how we use vocabulary games in the lesson. After giving the theoretical background I will write about the use and role of vocabulary games in my groups. I teach children aged from ten to fourteen in a primary school. Finally I will summarize my experiences about games in vocabulary teaching.
