Abstract

Six-year-old children are old enough to start learning a foreign language. My thesis examines language research, psychological research on the development of children and many books written for teaching young learners. I came to the conclusion that it is beneficial to begin learning English when children start their education in primary schools and there is not any evidence that young children should not be taught English at that very early age. I will provide examples of lessons for the target age group and also provide a syllabus for teachers for a semester that can be used for teaching English to first graders.
