Abstract
he use of music in the classroom is widespread in teaching a foreign language. Music, it seems, as a useful tool for successful language learning. Songs can be used for different purposes and the activities connected with them are virtually unlimited. They present authentic material, and they bring `real' English into the classroom. Songs of course, can provide an enjoyable change of routine in the classroom, but as well as being fun, they have a useful part to play in language teaching. While songs can provide relaxation and variety, they are also a valuable teaching aid, and provide the opportunity to widen vocabulary, practise the language orally and join in a communal activity. In my thesis I introduce many views related to music and language teaching in the classroom, and draw some conclusions. One aim of my thesis is to draw attention to the useful role of music in the acquisition of a foreign language. Music and associated materials should be a tool in the teacher's toolbox. Essentially, my thesis is about using music as a tool for improving/developing the Listening and Speaking skills as well as the Reading and Writing skills in the language learning classroom.
