    Abstract

In my thesis I am trying to prove that the Norman Conquest did make, an effect on the development of the English language, with special regard the numerous French loan-words that entered English in different periods after the Norman Conquest. For my work I used some of the relevant sources written by different linguists and sociolinguists dealing with the history(f English language. After my research I found that the long, nearly three or four hundred years of close English-French contact left a considerable mark on English language, inducing a process still existing up today, y as we will see in later chapters.
