Abstract

This thesis examines the role of fate in the novel Tess of the d'Urbervilles. The aim is to prove that the motif of fatalism is central in the novel. I analyse Hardy's unique universe, how the concepts of nature, mythology, religion and fatalism appear in the characters and in the events.
