Abstract

This thesis is about Milne and his children's literature (including Winnie-the-Pooh and the House at Pooh Corner). As for the structure of my thesis the first unit deals with the life of Alan Alexander Milne with especially respect to that period of his life when these literary works were come into being. Besides it contains biographical details from the preceding and the following periods of his life for the better understanding of his stories. The second unit contains a critical study of Winnie-the-Pooh, giving reasons for its great popularity and trying to explore the child in us, adults. It examines the purpose of writing theWinnie-the-Pooh, the role of the writer, the characters, the structure, the style and the sources of humour in order to support my ideas.
