Abstract
After experiencing some sense of failure during my teaching practise several questions have arisen in me about class management ( the topic of my thesis): How does a positive classroom atmosphere develop? How can a teacher promote good behaviour? What can be done to minimise the risk that children will misbehave? What does a teacher do to keep students working hard and behaving well? As I could not answer these questions on my own I started to examine the literature on this topic. The central theme of my thesis is the development of positive system of management. To a great extent, my paper will focus on factors which are within a teacher’s sphere of influence and concentrate on how teachers can organise the classroom environment to encourage students’ appropriate behaviour and progress. My thesis is teacher-centred rather than student-centred. Thus, an. emphasis will be put on the role of a teacher, on his/her attitude towards the students. To put it shortly, I discuss the principles of class management with which an effective class manager should be aware of.
