Abstract

The central point of this thesis paper is proving that using games in the language classroom is beneficial and useful because they help in the learning process. As a supporting point serves the result of a biological research about the parallel use of the two hemispheres of the human brain. It can be found in the second chapter. The evaluation of the answers to the questions of a self-prepared questionnaire of which copies were given to teachers dealing with elementary school students, can also be a supporting point. This analysis can be read in the last chapter. I chose these teachers to be asked because they have first hand experiences by meeting the children they teach day by day. Knowing the students well and being aware of their set of instincts they bring with them to the classroom is enormously important. This is the topic of the first chapter of the thesis. Theachers can build on these skills, abilities when deciding to introduce games into the lessons. What do we call game, this is the central question of the third chapter with the intention of giving a definition of a game in order to know what we are talking about in this thesis.
