Abstract
During and after the 19thcentury a lot of Hungarians left their mother country. They settled down in various places of the world and many of them chose Canada for their new home. In this thesis I will examine the history and the reasons for Hungarian emigration to Canada and I will show that they assimilated to a greater extent to the Canadian culture and didn't keep a close relationship with each other. For the historical background I used books by both Canadian and Hungarian authors to maintain an objective point of view. For the remainder of my thesis I contacted Canadian Hungarians by e-mail and held personal interviews in order to understand the present day situation.
