Abstract

It has been always hard to be a member of an ethnic group. In Hungary Gypsies, while in the United States African-Americans represent the main ethic group. But by the end of the 20th century African-Americans gained a socially and economically higher status than Hungarian Gypsies. In my thesis I will analyse many factors that helped these ethnic groups. I will examine their historical backgroud and their lifestyle in the 20th century to prove my statement. I will focus on the role of religion as an essential help and community building factor.
