When we speak about the knowledge of a foreign language we mean an appropriate level of speaking, reading, writing and listening. In the first part of my thesis I will examine the importance of these skills. Here I will point to different significance of skills regarding numbers. Teaching numbers is part of the school curriculum. I will show what pupils learn about numbers at school. This part of my thesis deals with teaching material of the course books Project English. In this part I will discuss the importance of numbers in development of classroom language. After these mostly theoretical expositions I will focus on practical problems. According to my pupils' opinion I will show what they think to be difficult. It will be based on conversations held after lessons. The third part deals with my experience which I got from observations and tests. I will throw light on problems with numbers as I see them. In the fourth part of my thesis I will examine the possible reasons for difficulties.
