Abstract
Shamanism is a living phenomenon of our days. In my thesis I would like to prove that the main reason for this fact could be found in the flexibility of this belief system. In order to prove this statement I decided to follow the history of the Sioux, since this is one of the tribes, of which lifestyle has changed the most. First of all I am going to examine the general shaman features, then I will focus on the Sioux tribes and with the help of the research of anthropologists and historians, I will follow the "road" of the holy-men.
