Abstract
In this thesis I will examine the situation of Protestants and Catholics in England from Henry VIII to William III of Orange. I will look back to the foundation of Anglican church as the dividing line in English religion. I will discuss the reasons and consequences of this event. Furthermore this work will discuss how kings and queens influenced religious life. It will prove that the religion of the prevailing king or queen was decisive from the point of view how Catholics and Protestants were dealt with. From the respect of religious tolerance I will also examine the relationship between Catholics and Protestants as the result of the above mentioned elements.
