Abstract
This thesis examines how essential and how motivating games are in language teaching at lower primary level. First it describes the general characteristics of younger learners and reveals what motivation is and why it is essential in teaching young students. Then it determines what features good language games have and demonstrates the main game types. It shares experiences on how to use language games in the English lessons. Finally, it proves the important role of games in language learning through research carried out among practising English teachers.
