Abstract
This thesis examines America's War of Independence and the effects Thomas Paine's writings on the colonists. In the following pages, I am going to prove that it were Thomas Paine's writings that persuaded the everyday colonist to desire independence. Paine, throughhiswritings, explained the political and moral ideas standing behind the independence movement to the average man. He played a key role in rallying American support for independence.
